The two forms of this karo are used: one in sections A, B and D, the other one in section C.

However the harmonic structure is always 2,3 3,2 2,3 3,2 and so goes the rhythmic structure as a result of the optimal treatment of the formula. One code only: 2,3 3,2 2,3 3,2 drives both the harmony and the rhythmic description. The composition is therefore auto-coded in the sense that it contains it’s own description.

Score of “Rémi Face au Lacis Doré” Daniel Schell C0112

Remi_C112

The score shown here demonstrates only a simple rule for what can be done with it. Section A emphasizes long chords of seconds over the bass pattern; it can be repeated as a cycle and progressively expanded to section B. In Section B the triads are expanded as repetitive patterns , still phased over the bass pattern. This will conclude to the theme, of the form C C D , where the last four bars of D are C again

An example of ‘Rémi’ played by Ensemble Karo on their album ‘If Windows they Have’ ed.
